What should I do if I get an email from a data broker?

After getting our removal request, some companies decide to contact you directly. Sometimes they do that as an extra layer of security to confirm the request; other times it’s a malicious tactic where they send intimidating-sounding emails with claims that you must do this or that to get your data removed.

Here’s what to do:

1. Please direct all of your communication to remove@deleteme.com; use this approach, and we’ll handle the rest for you.

3. Sometimes companies use 3rd party services like OneTrust to handle their GDPR/CCPA compliance; in such cases, they tend to send an automated email that is sent from a no-reply email and has a “Confirm Email” button in the email – since it’s an automated email, the fastest way to proceed is to click on the button to confirm the request, and in most instances, this will process your data removal request.

We’re working on dealing with these companies to minimize the unnecessary emails they send to the users. Over time, you should see the number of verification emails from data brokers decreasing.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
